Yin Yoga

I like many kinds of yoga.
I wouldn’t be able to do only one kind of yoga I think Yin Yoga is really awesome.
If someone would have told me years ago that I would feel this way after practicing Yin yoga, I would have laughed at them. The thought of every pose being 3 to 5 minutes long would simply turn me into a very aggressive person.
Instead, it’s like this whole magic world and deep connection with your body opens up. Layer after layer after layer and it is the most fascinating thing to discover this. Our bodies are such infinite ‘bodies’ of entire worlds beyond our comprehension.
A glimpse of that is revealed while having a journey in an asana. As you get into a pose let’s say Baddha Konasana, a sitting forward bend; the stretch starts in your neck, then travels down your spine and with every exhale you let gravity take you a bit deeper. You may feel an opening sensation in your sacrum and a stretch in your inner thighs. Then your attention is drawn to your neck and every release reveals a new dimension of feelings and vibrations.
Or if you have an asana which you have to do on both sides, one side can feel like a party and the other side like a dark cloud.
However, the most amazing thing for me is afterwards, I feel so energetic.
In my self-critical view, I didn’t do anything of course. A five minute forward bend and working with gravity is not work in my Dutch Calvinistic approach to life.
I have a student who after an intense Ashtanga Yoga class, sometimes says she’s on a yoga-high. Even though that’s not what I experience I can understand that. After Ashtanga, especially in those classes in which I feel improvement and was able to keep up with the pace and asanas, there is a feeling of accomplishment together with a feeling of health and radiance, but after Yin Yoga, it feels like I have immersed myself in the clear spring water of a fountain of eternal youth . Maybe a bit over the top, but you get my drift. Yoga is about releasing shit and I definitely released shit in every asana today.
