In Between Doors

In between doors
One not quite shut
Even though I try to
The other one
Not quite ready to be opened
In between doors
Stuck in my soul’s no man’s land
It’s space too small to take the first step
Too narrow to mess around
Is it really necessary to force shut a door that doesn’t close properly?
Is it really necessary waiting for someone to open the other door?
In between doors
Not wanting to wait for floods
Or other door-opening disasters
“Just extend your hand”
In this small space
My left foot firmly presses
against the old door
so the Boogey man won't enter
Where I extend my right hand
and push down the doorknob
I hear a smooth click
Its brand new hinges hardly make a sound
When the opening is wide enough
I will swiftly lift my left foot and slip through
Closing the old door behind me
Exhilarated I will stand at the threshold
A wonderful view
Endless possibilities
It was me who opened the door
